Photographic Treks and Safaris
Whether we visit the bush or the mountain, it is our goal to get you in the right place at the right time to capture amazing images. Nowhere in Tanzania will you find a Kilimanjaro Trek especially tailored to the desires of the photographer adventurer. We offer the first Photographic Trek ever and we’re happy to offer it on two of the mountain’s trekking routes. (Lemosho and Machame)
In true photographic fashion, we will be up before the dawn and out shooting for sunrise. In the afternoon we will be back in the field until the last rays of sunset plunge us into the dark African night.
If you are interested in wildlife photography a Tanzanian safari or trek will be a perfect choice. We’re also able to fulfil special requests from professional photographers and photographic associations.

Birding
Tanzania is a very important country ornithologically. It has one of the largest species lists of any African country, over 1,000 of which over 800 species are resident and nearly 200 are regular migrants. 56 species are of global conservation concern of which 21 are endemic to Tanzania and a further 43 species occur in only one or two other countries. Let Heroes take you on a bird watching expedition that will broaden your list of spottings considerably.
Mount Kilimanjaro is forested between 1,500 m and 3,000 m with the National Park lying above 2,700 m. It holds a range of forest species including Olive Ibis, Bostrychia olivacea and alpine species such as Hill Chat Cercomela sordida andScarlet-tufted Malachite Sunbird Nectarinia johnstoni. It is also well known forLammergeier Gypaetus barbatus and Abbott’s Starling Pholia femoralis.
The Serengeti National Park is one of the best known National Parks in Africa lying between Lake Victoria and the Eastern Rift Valley and adjacent to Kenya’s Masai Mara Reserve and bordering the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The Park holds three Tanzanian endemics Grey-breasted Spurfowl Francolinus rufopictus,Fischer’s Lovebird Agapornis fischeri and Rufous-tailed Weaver Histurgops ruficaudus. Many large flocks of African and Palearctic migrants are easily observed in the Serengeti during peak migratory periods.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area is part of the crater highlands and varies in altitude from 1,700 m at the crater floor to some 3,000 m at the rim. Over 500 species are known from this site including the largest known population ofFischer’s Lovebird Agapornis fischeri. Several important wetlands lie within the site which is important for both Greater Flamingo Phoenicopterus ruber andLesser Flamingo Phoeniconaias minor. Large mammals, including the endangered Black Rhinoceros, are cradled in this scenic caldera.
Lake Natron is a shallow soda lake on the floor of the Eastern Rift valley and extends 58 km south from the Kenyan border. It is the most important breeding site for the majority of the world population of Lesser Flamingo Phoeniconaias minor and its arid surrounding habitat, especially if one traverses across country toward Mt. Longido and West Kilimanjaro plains, offers unique opportunities forBuff-crested Bustard Eupodotis gindiana, Spike-heeled Lark Chersomanes albofasciata etc. It is also excellent for mammals such as Gerenuk, Steenbok and occasionally Lesser Kudu.
Mkomazi Game Reserve holds a number of species which are found at the southern limit of their range, extending to the southern base of the South Pare Mountains. These include Friedmann’s Lark Mirafra pulpa, Pygmy Batis Batis perkeo, Three-streaked Tchagra Tchagra jamesi, Shelley’s Starling Lamprotornis shelleyi and Pringle’s Puffback Dryoscopus pringlii.
The Usambara mountains is one of the most important areas on the African mainland for the conservation of globally threatened species. Usambara Eagle Owl Bubo vosseleri, Sokoke Scops Owl Otus ireneae, Long-billed TailorbirdOrthotomus moreaui, Dappled Mountain-Robin Arcanator orostruthus,Swynnerton’s Robin Swynnertonia swynnertoni and Usambara Weaver Ploceus nicolli all occur here.
Biking
An adventure on board a bike to various places in Tanzania gives a visitor more wide chance to explore the beauty of the country. With the escort of vehicle(s) this tour will take you to the paved and rough road to hills to experience different landscape and visit the villages and indigenous. The rides don’t have a specific distance as you get tired you can use the car but we will decide the distance expected to be covered before starting.
Our vehicle(s) will be having food and bottled water for you and other equipment depending on your choice. Any fit person who likes bike riding can join the trip and enjoy the exploration. People who come with us enjoy the active outdoors and want something different in a holiday.
Itinerary
- Day 1: Arrive from your country and meet our guide at the Kilimanjaro International Airport then get transferred to your hotel in Moshi. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
- Day 2: After breakfast departure with our picnic lunch to the first camp near Marangu. Short bike ride (8-10 miles) to camp at Marangu. Dinner and lodging in camp.
- Day 3: Continue on trail from Marangu to Useri (20 miles). Picnic lunch en route. Camp near Wachagga village of Useri. Riders depart from camp while crew loads vehicle. Camp crew goes ahead to set next camp. Support vehicles sweep behind riders.
- Day 4: Continue on trail from Useri to Rongai (20 miles). Picnic lunch en route. First night’s camp at Rongai.
- Day 5: Full day at Rongai, hiking in forest and exploring area. Second night’s camp at Rongai.
- Day 6: Continue on trail from Rongai to Ol Molog (20 miles). Picnic lunch en route. Camp near Maasai village of Ol Molog.
- Day 7: Continue on trail from Ol Molog to Ndarakwai Private Game Reserve (20 miles). Picnic lunch en route. First night’s camp at Ndarakwai.
- Day 8: All day in Ndarakwai. Bike riding, walking safaris and game drives. Second night’s camp at Ndarakwai.
- Day 9: Depart Ndarakwai to Arusha National Park for all day walking safari. Lunch en route. Return to Moshi for dinner and overnight at the hotel.
- Day 10: All day to relax and explore Moshi town. Shopping and sightseeing. Return flight to your country or continue on with optional trips in Tanzania and Zanzibar.

Camping Safaris
These safaris are suitable for any person who enjoys camping and or outdoor activities. We use good quality 4×4 land rovers and land cruisers with viewing roof hatches, equipment is carried by a additional car (if number of participating clients requires). Our Safari driver/guides have good knowledge of conservation issues, fauna and flora. Camping trips are accompanied by a Safari cook who prepares 3 delicious meals daily. Camp assistants may be available on certain safaris according to the number of participating clients.
Lodge Safaris
These are the equivalents of the western deluxe hotels. Lodge chains such as the Serena and Sopa and a few other privately owned lodges and camps keep a very high standard of service. Simpler lodges we use, such as the Tahi chain (Sopa Lodges) are of a good standard and also very comfortable.
